Frostbite is a single-player UDK mod created for a student project. It was built over the course of 4 weeks, and makes use of kismet scripting exclusively.

Level and Game Design - Along with building the level, I designed the game mechanics as well.

Scripting - The entirety of the game was scripted with kismet. This includes the weapon systems, enemies and the boss fight.

Environmental Art - I created a large library of assets to populate the world. I also spent a lot of time lighting the level.

In frostbite, the player is equipped with a magic bow. The default behavior kills enemies, but the bow can also be charged with ice to freeze enemies (along with other objects).

The ability to turn enemies into tools to progress results in a mix of action and strategy gameplay.

I built the level to make use of the freezing mechanic as much as possible. I spent a lot of time ensuring the mechanic was introduced properly, and the player learned at an appropriate pace. There are several smaller self-contained puzzles, along with a boss fight which tests everything the player has learned.

Finally, even though I only had a few weeks, it was important to me that the mod felt separate from UDK. I created tons of fantasy assets, which help give my world a unique feel.
